Free Content An Investigation into the Nonlinear Vibration Response of a Beam: PZT Stack and Proof-Mass System

This paper presents a coupled model describing the structural vibration due to the piezo-electrical and hysteresis excitations by a PZT stack attached with a proof mass at one end and a beam structure at the other. The nonlinear hysteresis excitation of the PZT stack causes the nonlinear response in the proof mass and the nonlinear response in the beam vibration when the proof mass is attached. The simulation results indicate that this model may be useful for a systematic investigation of the structure-PZT stack-proof mass coupled system in terms of the nonlinear excitation, and effect of the modal properties of the proof mass-PZT stack system and the structure under excitation.
