This paper presents an experimental investigation into the vibration damping and sound radiation behavior of steel panels coated with liquid applied spray damping (LASD), focusing on the effect of coating thickness. The vibration and acoustic behavior are measured simultaneously using frequency response functions (FRFs) in a hemi-anechoic chamber. The panel dimensions are chosen to match the frequency range of the SAE J1637 Oberst bar method. Four LASD coating thicknesses: 0.4 mm, 0.8 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm, representing 25% to 100% of panel thickness, are tested to evaluate their impact on the vibro-acoustic behavior of the steel panels. The results provide practical guidelines for selecting LASD coating thickness for noise and vibration control of thin steel panels.
