2021 IBC classroom acoustics - be in the know
The 2021 and 2024 International Building Code (IBC) Section 1207 “Enhanced Classroom Acoustics” has significant implications for acoustics. This section references Section 808 of International Code Council (ICC) A117.1, which sets requirements for reverberation time and
ambient sound levels in classrooms. Meeting the maximum allowable ambient sound level (35 dBA and 55 dBC) can necessitate costly design measures to reduce HVAC noise. This expense is often unforeseen, especially in districts or states without previous ambient noise requirements. Enforcement
of this section also varies considerably by location. Learn how consultants are getting the necessary mitigation strategies incorporated, and how different areas are enforcing this requirement using Colorado as an example.

The Noise-Con conference proceedings are sponsored by INCE/USA and the Inter-Noise proceedings by I-INCE. NOVEM (Noise and Vibration Emerging Methods) conference proceedings are included. All NoiseCon Proceedings one year or older are free to download. InterNoise proceedings from outside the USA older than 10 years are free to download. Others are free to INCE/USA members and member societies of I-INCE.
