
Vibration reduction of plate structures via various damping treatment
Panels and shells are widely used in vehicle structures, including aircraft, ships, automobiles, trains and so on. The vibration and sound properties of those panels directly affect the acoustical environment in the cabin. To control the cabin noise and increase ride comfort, a meaningful
work is to reduce the vibration and sound radiation of the cabin panels. Much work has been done for this goal, including damping, absorbers, structural design, active control and so on. Recently, the study of artificial periodic structures (including phononic crystals, acoustic metamaterials,
et al) receives much attention. This type of structures has multi unique physical properties and some of these properties show potential application in the field of vibration and noise control. In this paper, the periodic damping treatment is used to reduce the vibration the panels. Via the
comparison of periodic damping and classical damping (including free damping layer and constrained damping layer), the advantages from periodic design are studied. In this process, different types of periodic damping are considered, including free periodic damping, constrained periodic damping
and locally resonant damping. The work in this paper will provide some new supports for using damping treatment better.
