Free Content BEM Analysis of Tuned Dissipative Silencers

Download Article:
Tuned dissipative silencers, also known as the pine-tree silencers, consist of a series of lined cavities to target a few tonal frequencies while providing broadband noise attenuation. Due to the often repetitive design patterns, these silencers can be efficiently modeled by the substructured boundary element method (BEM) in conjunction with the recently developed impedance-to-scattering matrix method. In this paper, we validate the BEM solution by comparing to a semi-analytical solution as well as a finite element method (FEM) solution.
