Characteristics of unsteady flow field and flow-induced noise in outdoor unit of an air conditioner
This study was conducted to clarify the characteristics of unsteady flow field and flow-induced noise generated by an axial fan in outdoor unit of an air conditioner. In this study, Three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and the simplified Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings(FW-H) equation
were solved to predict the unsteady flow field and the noise, respectively. The noise of an axial cooling fan in an outdoor unit was measured in semi-anechoic room, and then compared with the result from computational aeroacoustics. The predicted noise obtained from computation agreed qualitatively
with one of the experiment. The sound sources were found at the tip and at suction side of each blade.

The Noise-Con conference proceedings are sponsored by INCE/USA and the Inter-Noise proceedings by I-INCE. NOVEM (Noise and Vibration Emerging Methods) conference proceedings are included. All NoiseCon Proceedings one year or older are free to download. InterNoise proceedings from outside the USA older than 10 years are free to download.
