
Regulations for community noise
In many industrialized countries, noise has developed into a severe environmental problem. According to a representative survey in 1994, 70% of the citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany are annoyed by road traffic noise, and, among these, 22% are seriously annoyed. More than 40%
of the citizens are annoyed by aircraft noise, and the corresponding numbers for rail traffic and industrial noise are more than 20%. Similar results have also been obtained in other countries, e.g.,The Netherlands.
