Fan concept study for low noise cooling of mobile machinery
The study presented in this paper has been carried out in order to find a low noise cooling concept for a mobile machinery diesel engine package. Based on the study a comparison between different fan configurations has been presented. The study has been carried out experimentally using
the same application test mock up for all configurations. The selection of the impeller has a significant effect on the performance of the fan in terms of sound generation. The results show that the use of a centrifugal fan impeller gives considerably lower values of sound power than the traditionally
used axial fans due to the better aerodynamic performance in the set up.
