Optimization of a metal additively manufactured hydraulic silencer with array resonators
As mobile machines shift to electrification, hydraulic circuit noise, previously masked by combustion engine noise, has emerged as a significant concern. To address acoustic comfort issues, this paper investigates an innovative solution for high-performance noise reduction in hydraulic
circuits. The proposed silencer design incorporates an optimized array of Helmholtz resonators, strategically arranged to broaden the narrow band characteristics of single resonators. The chosen configuration effectively reduces pressure pulsations across a broad mid-frequency spectrum. While
this design is well-established in air medium, its application in a hydraulic oil medium is pioneering. Fabricated through metal additive manufacturing, the silencer undergoes testing on a dedicated bench. Transmission Loss measurements validate both the concept and the optimization methodology.
