Download Article:
Noise from transportation sources is considered a primary source of annoyance world-wide. Highways are the most ubiquitous and as such, abatement of highway noise is an on-going concern. Recently, work was completed for the Federal Highway Administration including "Framework for Considering the Benefits and cost of Noise Abatement Measures" and "State of the Practice-Evaluating and Quantifying the Benefits of Noise Abatement Measures: Literature Review and Synthesis". Abatement measures reviewed covered a wide range of possible methods that could be utilized. Information from these documents, based on an international literature review and then used in a cost/benefit analysis procedure, will be presented and important measures discussed.
