Free Content Measuring the sound isolation of doors with ASTM test standards: A case study update

At Inter-Noise 2021, a case study was presented involving performance compliance testing conducted at a university's media facility where the test methods of both ASTM E2964 and ASTM E336 were applied to assess the performance of sound-rated door assemblies. This paper provides an update on the application of the described ASTM testing standards through follow-up testing that was conducted after field adjustments were made at the media facility. The paper compares the resulting door transmission class ratings to the apparent sound transmission class ratings and examines the influence of field adjustments on each rating class.
