Application of stockbridge type tuned mass damper on the chillers for mitigating the Tonal structure-borne noise in Hotel Guest Room under the Chiller Plant Room
A tonal structure-borne noise was generated in a hotel room due to the vibration transmitted from the chiller above. The tonal structural-borne noise was annoying to the hotel guest in particular during bedtime. To develop a simple and cost-effective solution to solve this noise problem
without interrupting the operation of the chillers and altering the structure of the area, the prototypes of Stockbridge type Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) were fabricated for the chillers. The tonal vibrational force on the chiller and the coincident tonal noise in the guestroom was significantly
reduced.
