Free Content SNAME Procedures for Evaluating the Transmission of Structure Borne Noise

Download Article:
SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) published an update of T&R 3-37 (Design Guide for Shipboard Airborne Noise Control) in 2018. CSTI has developed a viable implementation of the procedures in the SNAME guide. These procedures allowed for evaluating the transmission of structure borne noise from mechanical equipment on naval vessels, FPSOs, and other offshore facilities to sensitive areas such as sleeping areas in living quarters. Numerous errors in the procedure were identified and will be discussed. An example of the calculation procedure will be presented as well as a discussion of the need for continued vigilance in obtaining data after the projects are commissioned.
