Pavement Texture Analysis and Correlation with Tire Noise
The pavement parameters are usually considered to have larger effect on the tire-pavement interaction noise (TPIN) than the tire parameters. The most important pavement parameter is pavement texture. In this study, the texture profiles for ten different pavements were measured and characterized
by mean profile depth (MPD), shape factor, and texture spectra. Good correlation can be found between pavement texture velocity spectrum and tire noise spectrum. The overall noise level can be well predicted by the MPD and the shape factor.
