
Horizontal vibration response control of non-structure elements using gyro-stabilizer
As the occurrence of earthquakes has increased worldwide in recent years, the seismic design of non-structural elements (pump, generator, pipe, etc.) installed in structures and buildings has been attracting attention. Among these non-structural elements, water extinguishing pumps are
generally installed in the building layers. In th s case, even if the building is seismically designed, the pumps will inevitably suffer from the effects of seismic motion. In general, the mount at the lower part of pump baseplate is responsible for the pump's seismic resistance. While most
of these mounts are optimized to prevent vertical vibration, they are relatively weak against horizontal vibration. Consequently, they may be destroyed or may break away because of seismic motion. Seismic design can be divided into active control and passive control. Researchers have studied
gyro-stabilizers, a method of active control, which use the gyroscope effect to control various motions. Therefore, this study is to compare the horizontal vibration control of water extinguishing pump using a gyro-stabilizer, which is an active type anti-vibration system, with that of the
conventional passive type mounts.
