The shunt loudspeaker (SL) is a resonant sound absorber which usually consists of a closed-box loudspeaker and a shunt circuit. In this paper, an array of shunt loudspeakers with a thickness of 11.8 cm is designed to absorb the low frequency component around 100 Hz for transformer noise control. An analytical expression is proposed for calculating the sound absorption coefficient of the array under random incidence. The experiment results are presented to verify the calculated results in the reverberation room. It is shown that the shunt loudspeaker array has nearly perfect sound absorption coefficients (0.97 from the simulations and 1.04 from the experiments) around 100 Hz in the reverberation room.
