In order to solve the problem of noise source identification and radiation intensity estimation of aeroengine, a method of sound power estimation based on spiral array beamforming is proposed. The noise source recognition performance of three commonly used planar test arrays is compared. The results show that compared with cross array and uniform circle array, spiral array has better noise source identification performance under the same number of sensors and the same array aperture. Then the spiral array pattern is derived theoretically and the conversion model between the beamforming output and the radiated sound power of the sound source is established. Simulation and experiment verify the correctness of the model. The experimental results show that the maximum error of sound power estimation is no more than 2.6dB for both single-frequency sound source and broadband sound source.
