A comparison of the noise reduction performance of two virtual sensing method
This paper compares the noise reduction performances of two widely-used virtual sensing methods for local active noise control (ANC), the remote-microphone method and the additional-filter method, based on performance predicted from road noise data in a car. The predicted results, which
are calculated under various conditions, show clear differences between the robust performances of the two virtual sensing methods. These differences between the two methods are further studied by using a numerical model of the headrest ANC system. The numerical reproduction of these conditions
demonstrates that the additional-filter method is sensitive to uncertainties in the reference signals fed to the system, whereas, the remote-microphone method can be fragile against the perturbations of the other plant responses. This study can be considered as a guide to future virtual acoustic
sensing applications.
