An effective method of texture analysis based on gray level co-occurrence matrix is applied to ship wake image, which is the doppler velocity profile and shows space-time distribution characteristics. It researches ship wake by analyzing the discrepancy between texture features of velocity profile with and without wake in this paper. And besides, compared with no wake, the velocity profile of ship wake has good directionality, on the basis of which, gray level cooccurrence matrix method in some direction is studied on texture analysis. The velocity profiles with different distributions are simulated to analyze the texture features. It shows that the feature parameters calculated by the method, such as energy, entropy and contrast, have obvious differences and the effectiveness of the method is verified.
