
Real-Time Auralization of Sound Insulation
In building, the noise effects on humans include disturbance of conversation or listening to the TV or radio in private dwellings as well as communication in office premises, reduced power of concentration during physical or mental work, and disturbance of sleep. All this strongly depends
on the kind of noise signal (speech, music, footfall, etc.) and on the context, and thus, it is highly doubtful if single-number quantities such as the STL sufficiently describe the real situation. This paper describes the implementation of airborne sound insulation models in buildings based
on ISO-EN: 12354 part I (2017). It comprehends the calculation procedures to evaluate the performance of the building elements, from where we can evaluate the overall performance of the buildings in terms of noise and comfort. A comparison between calculation and measurement for different
situations is presented by considering different type of building elements and their constructions. Furthermore, based on this model, an algorithm for auralization of airborne sound insulation is presented as an application towards virtual reality (VR) systems and interactive scenarios in
buildings.
