Unsteady Flow of an Impulsively Started Circular Cylinder with Two Symmetrical Strips
The finite volume method based on the dynamic mesh method is used to investigate the two-dimensional unsteady viscous incompressible flow around a circular cylinder with two symmetrical strips attached on its surface. The main purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of the location
of strips on the wake. Three placement angles of strips are selected as 20°, 90°and120°. The present solutions are in good agreement with the experimental results reported in the open literature. The development of wake shows some new phenomena with different strip locations and
the significant difference appears at a=90°. The vortex intensity is much larger compared to that of a smooth cylinder. The pressure distribution on the surface of the cylinder and the shape of wake also change with strip placement angles.
