Free Content Study on Acoustic and Physical Properties Optimization of PET Composite Layers for Automotive Interior Materials

PET is a good candidate for automotive interior materials because of its excellent physical properties such as heat resistance, light weight and high mechanical strength. In an automotive industry, it is mainly applied in a headliner which is used on ceiling part to absorb and insulate external noise and heat. Natural fiber, PU, PP-GF are commonly used in the headliner. Among them, PP-GF reinforced board that is mixed PP with reinforced glass fiber shows high mechanical strength and light weight. However, PP-GF has some problems like post-deformation after their forming and scattering matters when it is exposed on the CAB(Curtain Air Bag) deployment test. In this study, we formed PET to have uniform cell distributions and made a sheet through extrusion process. We studied their optimum composite layers by stacking these sheets with various density and thickness. And we also characterized their mechanical, thermal and acoustic properties by UTM, TGA and sound absorption measurement using Impedance tube and alpha-cabin
