Absorption Treatment in Million Cubic Foot Public Space

The large interior volume of the historic Denver Union Station was hugely reverberant. This disused space was renovated as a public centerpiece of the redevelopment of Lower Downtown. The Main Hall serves as an entryway to a new transit hub, the lobby of a five-star hotel in the historic terminal building, and as LoDo's living room. The million-cubic-foot space contains bars and restaurants, sofas and game tables, and hosts many thousands of people daily. There is constant foot traffic of commuters and tourists. The renovated condition includes a highly absorptive plaster treatment on the barrel-vaulted ceiling. Peer review indicated that the design would be appropriate. Comments and photographs will show elements of construction. The final condition is very favorable with none of the disturbing reverberation of the past.
