Metal-plastic composites with amplitude dependent damping
Non-linear material damping models commonly imply frequency and temperature dependency. In addition, some materials show a sensititity of the damping to the vibration amplitudes. Within this study, metal-plastic composites with shear sensitive and thus high dissipating cores have been
used to determine the damping experimentally with varying amplitudes. The results show a significance of this parameter in a certain range. The derived non-linearity is further described by an analytical formulation. Furthermore, the amplitude sensitivity is retraced to the contibutions of
the single layer materials necessitating a detailed analysis of the stress states. The resulting model can be applied to frequency domain FEA to improve the determination of the radiated sound power of such acoustically improved materials.
