
Acoustic design of the Jiangsu Grand Theatre
The Jiangsu Grand Theatre is one the largest performing arts centre development in the People's Republic of China. It includes a 2000 seat opera house, a 1500 seat concert hall a 800 seat drama theatre, a 3000 seat conference centres and multiple supporting spaces. With an overall 200,000m2
GFA, the Jiangsu Grand Theatre was a major undertaking for the Nanjing city government. Initially let through an international design competition in 2010, the design was finally awarded in 2013 to the East China Architectural Design Institute (ECADI) in Shanghai. Four years on, the project
is now completed. In this paper, we will present the acoustic design brief, the acoustic design and present the results of the acoustic commissioning measurements for the opera house, concert hall and drama theatre.
