Free Content Measurement of Statistical Energy Analysis Parameters on a Test Enclosure

Statistical energy analysis (SEA) is often used to predict vibration and noise for modally dense structures. However, accuracy of the method depends on determination of the parameters such as the damping and coupling loss factors. In this study, SEA was used to simulate a small test enclosure consisting of a steel frame with plastic panels attached. The SEA parameters are determined using two approaches: a simple two-subsystem method and a more sophisticated inverse method. SEA parameters are compared with good agreement. Following this, two force inputs are applied to the test enclosure. Measured vibration and noise is compared well to simulation. The model is also solved using software selected coupling loss factors since coupling loss factors are particularly difficult to measure. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the correct input power is the most significant input parameter to the model.
