The effect of soundscape on the students' perception in the high school environment
In 2014, ISO 12913-1 standard was established for the conceptual soundscape framework to assess such studies. According to this framework, soundscape process includes the examination of acoustic environment and its sound sources, and their influences on the humans' auditory sensation,
as to react that, humans' interpretation of auditory sensation, responses and outcomes. Aim of the study is to create this conceptual soundscape framework in high-school environment and to examine the effect of soundscape on the students' perception. The study was conducted with 60 students
in two schools, Ankara. To understand acoustic environment, in-situ measurements and simulation of space were conducted. Moreover, semi-structure interview and questionnaire were evaluated to understand the students' perception of soundscape. The results of the study show that the acoustic
environment did not satisfy the recommended values in literature. Generated conceptual framework showed that the different relations were recorded between students' perception and sound preferences in two schools. Additionally, it is found that perception of soundscape depends not only on
soundmarks, but also the physical and social context of the space. Whilst motorised transport soundmarks were evaluated differently when compared the results of both schools, natural soundmarks are evaluated as relaxing sound.
