
A questionnaire survey on health effects of aircraft noise for residents living in the vicinity of Narita International Airport: Part-2 Analysis and result detail
A questionnaire survey on health effects of aircraft noise, based on the agreement for conditional relaxation of curfew (23:00-6:00) at the meeting of Narita Airport and Community Council, was performed by the Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA) for residents living in the
vicinity of Narita International Airport. In the paper (Part-2), the analysis and the result detail were reported. The survey was implemented to investigate psychological effects like noise annoyance, night noise sleep disturbance and insomnia, mental effects like emotional instability and
depressive tendency, and physical effects like high-blood pressure. The questionnaire was consisted of both Total Health Index (THI) questionnaire constructed from about 130 self-rating questions asking perceived health and a general questionnaire asking about living environment and sleep
impact. The survey was carried by mail and the total of valid responses collected from the mail survey was 3,659. Response rate was 40%. About 3,600 respondents received reply envelop of his or her health assessment and the advices from experts based on response to the THI questionnaire. In
order to analyze health effects of aircraft noise at Narita International Airport, we applied logistic regression model to the results of this questionnaire survey.
