The new CNOSSOS-EU (Common Noise Assessment Method for Europe) guidelines have been adopted in 2014 within a revision of Annex II of EU Directive 2002/49. Although it is likely that interim methods will be used for the next two years for noise mapping activities, it is advisable that CNOSSOS-EU method be introduced as soon as possible throughout the Member States. The city of Trento, in Italy, with a population of some 100.000 inhabitants, was chosen for an experimental comparison of the application of the new CNOSSOS ROAD approach with the former Interim method (XPS 31-133 standard). A Noise Map of the city was calculated according to both approaches (interim method and CNOSSOS method) and in this paper the results of this comparison is given. A specific analysis was done of the accuracy of prediction results, compared to real noise measurement data.
