Free Content Effect of Floor Covering on the Sound Transmission and Impact Isolation on Various Floor/Ceiling Assemblies

There are several large collections of the acoustical performance of floor/ceilings. These include publications by Russel DuPree at the California Office of Noise Control and Alf Warnock at the National Research Council of Canada. While both of these publications are very through, neither included 1/3 octave band information for floor/ceilings with different floor coverings. In this paper, laboratory measurements of several floor/ceilings assemblies will be shared each with several different floor coverings. Difference in acoustical performance between different floor coverings on the same base assembly will be compared as well and the difference in acoustical performance of the floor covering on different base assemblies. All measurements were conducted in the same third-party accredited laboratory to eliminate issues of laboratory reproducibility. Variation due to laboratory repeatability was minimized by conducting the measurements within a short amount of time.
