The previous version was in use for twenty-eight years beginning in 1996. Changes implemented in the 2024 revision result in significant reductions to calculated effectiveness of sound barriers. Typical ground level sound sources associated with energy projects were modeled using CadnaA for a variety of cases to compare the effectiveness of sound barriers using the 1996 and 2024 versions of ISO 9613-2. Sound barrier heights necessary to achieve compliance with a regulatory standard were compared. In some cases, the changes to this standard can be the difference between a buildable project and one that cannot be mitigated in a cost-effective manner.", }
