Although other industrial projects share many similar acoustical issues, in our experience power projects usually present the most challenges. The project owner/developer may need to purchase long lead time equipment, such as a power train, before even selecting the architect, engineering, and construction firm (AEC). The noise requirements for the facility may have been identified during the permitting phase but may not have been fully understood and recognized by all parties until the design work begins. The project noise requirements may be based on existing ambient sound conditions, which would require a fast-track baseline sound survey. Developing a sound model for the project with Basis-of-Design information is necessary for a preliminary evaluation as this will inform the project team about the degree of noise mitigation efforts that will be necessary, e.g., standard, advanced, or heroic measures. The sound model and noise control design are then refined and updated as more information becomes available over the course of the project. This paper carries you through a project, identifies the challenges, and describes the support provided by the consultant that aims for a successful facility.", }
