In the current state of research, few procedures describe how relevant parameters can be identified. The known procedures often remain vague about how exactly to proceed. Various qualitative and quantitative models are used to develop simulation models. How these models can be sequentially used has not been addressed during the model building process known so far. This contribution analyzes the model building process of a fast-rotating rotor system in an exploratory way. The focus of the analysis is on the identification of relevant parameters and the sequential use of qualitative and quantitative models to develop a simulation model. The development engineer uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative models. A C&C\texttwosuperior -Model is used to identify the relevant model parameters and defines the basic structure of the multi-body model. Quantitative models provided the values for parameterization of the multi-body model. The evaluation of the relevance of parameters in qualitative modeling determines the quality of the resulting quantitative model. Qualitative models already provide input for quantitative models, but are not directly linked via interfaces.", }
