Recently, it has been reported that their habitats are destroyed by many marine development projects, and several methods for preserving them have been studied. The underwater acoustic method may be a useful tool for long-term monitoring of population and appearance frequency of cetaceans. To apply the acoustic method to monitor the narrow-ridged finless porpoises, it is necessary to understand their acoustic properties. A sea experiment was conducted to measure the sound of finless porpoises on July 26, 2018 off the coast of Saemangeum, in the west coast of Korea. Echolocation click sounds were received by a hydrophone deployed from the small boat, and five finless porpoises were observed during the recording. The acoustic properties of the finless porpoise will be presented in this talk and compared to the results reported in the previous literatures for them inhabiting in other countries.
