Localized damages can occur due to contamination/ insufficient lubrication/impact load/rolling fatigue during operation. The localized damages may excite the bearing and the surrounding structures to vibrate and radiate noise. In this paper, the transient vibration of a tapered roller bearing excited by localized damages is studied using a three dimensional non-linear vibration model. The model can simulate the dynamic motions of each bearing components and their interactions. The vibrations excited by localized damages of various sizes are analyzed in both time and frequency domains. Non-linearity and the filtering effect of the localized damages are discussed.", }
