Porcupine Gold Mines (PGM), a subsidiary of Goldcorp Inc. has not only embraced but has pioneered many of these improvements staying competitive in the industry for over 100 years. With the development of the Hollinger Open Pit monitoring network and using technologies like the Noise Sentinel system and Barn Owl directional noise monitoring; PGM can demonstrate that it continuously meets environmental regulations and exceeds regulatory expectations on noise and vibration monitoring. This system allows the operation to monitor compliance, to manage its impacts and to improve community acceptance of this type of mining operation. In addition to their use, PGM also aims to educate the general public on these emerging technologies and present them to regulatory agencies hoping to obtain acceptance and approval for use. Leading the industry by implementing new technologies to monitor noise and vibration compliance is one example how PGM has been able to operate open pit operations near sensitive receptors, develop new projects while managing stakeholders relations, give regulators the confidence to approve permits for future ventures and is setting new standards for the mining industry.", }
